First of all I want to say thank you again for all the encouraging comments and thanks to all the new people who care enough to post. I so appreciate your words of encouragement. The Bible say to encourage one another and I am thankful to receive the blessings of encouragement especially being 8000 miles away from my comfort zone.
Today has been and emotional day and a day of moving forward. I did not take Sophie Nuan with me to the orphanage and I feel confident that it was the right decision. The director and the staff doctor agreed with me that it was the right decision. The doctor sat with me very patiently and answered all my questions. She told me that Sophie Nuan's demeanor had changed drastically over the past week. She quit going to her and others at the orphanage once they told her that her family would be coming to get her soon. She would not want to leave her room for fear of being taken away. There is no doubt in my mind that our daughter was loved dearly by her nannies and the staff at POP. I was able to hug her nannies and thank them with tears rolling down all of our faces and assured them that I would take care of her and that she had many people waiting to love her at home! I apologized for not bringing her back and they also agreed that she could not have handled it. I video her nannies talking to her so one day I will be able to show her how much they loved her. I told her that I would keep in contact and send pictures of her as much as possible. They told me she was very shy and she does not like things to change too much. They said she was like the big sister in her room, helping the other children. Their hearts are broken and so is mine. This is hard. You can never be prepared for the emotions that swell up inside of you and I cannot accurately type the words to express my emotions.
I was able to meet Mr. Yeung and is a very delightful, kind man. He made me feel like I was the most important person in the world and thanked me so much for being willing to adopt one of China's orphans!! I am the one who is honored to be a part of Sophie Nuan's life!!!! I was also able to visit with another child whose family will be coming to pick him up the end of October. The orphanage was extremely clean and all the staff were very friendly. It was hard to walk out knowing there are many Americans waiting.
When I returned back from POP, my princess was sleeping soundly in her stroller taking a nap. When she woke up we had to take her back to the Tianjin orphanage to pay our donation fee and we were required to bring her with us. I was very nervous but she did not even seem to recognize the building. She was crying so hard on Monday, I don't think that she even loked around. All of us and 2 other families toured this orphanage. No pictures allowed. It is so sad to see these children sitting at their tables. Their faces just light up when you walk into the room. This orphanage has several older children and that was hard to see.
We took our little princess to a dumpling restaurant and you can see these pictures over on picasaweb. She was so funny stuffing her mouth full. She actually played with me under the table kicking my leg and then laughing. She actually let me tickle her leg for a few short minutes. I will take every second that I can get. She gets so silly at night and her laugh is just precious. I forgot my cord to the video camara so I am unable to post any video...sorry! She does not have one of her front teeth. We have been told that she has never had a tooth there so not sure what that is all about. Hopefully the permanent tooth is there, if not we can get that fixed.
Thank you all for the prayers!!! They are working and she is slowly coming around...she still has moments where she reverts in to her shell but not as bad today...mostly when she gets tired. We have to put her in her stroller and she feels secure.
Good night from Tianjin.

Thank God for your great motherly instincts!! You would have been so disappointed with me had you brought Sophie back to POP. I’m glad you enjoyed your visit and had a chance to see all the love that the children receive. No doubt about it, our girls were well cared for at POP! Glad to see Sophie is starting to warm up to you a little…it’s only a matter of time and she will be following you around wherever you go. Hang in there and we will continue to pray for your family’s transition!!
Sherri, looking at the pictures from POP make me realize what a blessing it is that Sophie had such a nice facility. Of course a real home with the Peaks will be the BEST!! My heart breaks for all the other children there. Wish I was over there with you bringing a precious one home too! We all prayed for you all last night that you will continue to be safe and that Sophie's anxiety lessens every minute! Love ya! Val
"Baby steps"..........it's only a matter of time before Sophie realizes that she loves you more than life itself.
Hang in there! In just a week, we can all start loving Sophie! Can't wait!
Much love, SUSAN
Wow! What a day... My heart breaks, I wish we could bring them all home. Glad to hear there was a change even before you got there. And great!!! a touch, your heart must have skipped a beat or two. Love you and hurry home!!!
I am so thankful you had the opportunity to go to POP to have closure with the caretakers. I know the video you took will be priceless to Sophie one day. I am so proud of you, Sherrie. God is with you each step of the way. Thanks for your encouragement yesterday. We will continue to lift each other in prayer.
Love You!
Remember when you are out of your comfort zone and all alone-I Peter 5:7 "Casting all your cares upon Him for He cares for you."
I'm still praying.
Sherrie,
Tears roll down my face as I left a peice of my heart behind with those babies and children still waiting. I am glad you thought to get video messages for Sophie. Someday, she will treasure those I'm sure. I'll continue to pray for healing and bonding. Love and prayers from Dothan.
Sherri, Tears filled my eyes as I read your blog and looked at pictures of Sophie's nannys. I could tell it was a very hard day for you. You look so precious with all the children at POP. I am still praying daily. The Lord brings you to mind very often throughout my day. You all are so loved and supported by many. Continue to "be still and know that God is God". He is surrounding each of you and doing great things in each of your lives, even Sophies.
We are thinking and praying for you often. What a tough day this must have been, but it fills my heart with joy to hear that she is warming up to you!!! I cannot imagine how heartbreaking it was to see all the children waiting for homes. God Bless You!!!
Read your blog with tears. Happy tears as Sophie is with her forever family and sad tears for those left behind and the grieving process these little ones face. Anna's grief would come in waves especially at bed time and that was when I also felt so homesick and missing my boys. She had such a mournful cry. Kept my heart so tender for what she was going through. And sometimes during the day her fear looked like anger as those emotions are so closely related. Praise the Lord as he is in the business of healing hurting hearts. This is about the time the fatigue of the trip and roller coaster emotions can weigh upon you. We are praying for rest and strength for all. We trust the hardest days are behind you. What a blessing for you to allow us to journey with your family and share in lifting you all up in prayer. We are looking at every photo so keep snapping away!
Sherri, I have been following your journey for sometime and am amazed at your strength and fortitude. God has led you down this path and as you know He will continue to lead. You are making progress with Sophie each moment. Please take comfort in that. I don't much like change either, so I really sympathise with your baby girl. Keep up the good work... you are doing the right things. God Bless !
I am sitting here at work, obviously not working, while you four are asleep and I am wondering if she is sleeping with her big handsone brother. I know he has layed down with her for naps. Sherri, she sure looks pretty happy in alot of those pictures. How great was it that you learned how she was like a little mother to those in her room. She may very well be worried about all her little friends. You were able to learn so much about her personality that you are not able to get right now. The emotions of fear and anger are hiding her true self, but all that will change. I can't say enough of how amazing all this is. Thank you for sharing it all. We can't wait to see you.
That is one Loved little girl! POP looks like it has such a loving staff. You and Sophie share a tender heart right now but together love will bring everything together. Luckily she is very young and she will forget the pain of leaving her nannies from POP. Thank you for sharing the pictures...the children are adorable...it makes you want a thousand! We miss you and I know you are ready to come home. I will try to call Joshua tomorrow. I have been a little busy with Hurricane business. Don't worry...we just found out we don't have to go anywhere this time but there is another storm right behind it but we are prepared. The kids are happy because school got canceled for tomorrow (Friday)
Love ya
Thank you Lord!!!!
Wow finally got to look at all your pics today...makes me want to fly over and bring them all home!! I am so proud of you for being so strong!!! You have really outdone yourself!! You should be really proud Sherri! Still praying for you!
Aw, its alright.. you can imagine what shes going through. Changing homes and meeting a new family and everything. She'll warm up to you more, I promise.. I was a very shy kid too. Continue to be there, staying around her, maybe not even saying a word but if she was like me, she'll appreciate your company so much and grow to love you dearly. =) I'm so glad you and the rest of the family have Sophie now. You even got to play with her while she ate! That shows shes warming up. She may throw fits and cry now but don't be disheartened.. if none of us ever cried and let those emotions out, we'd crack lol. =) God will wrap his arms around her and comfort his children when they need it. What we can do is just offer love and guidance.
I realize you know everything I said already but I hope it helped. I'll keep you, uncle Ricky, Justin, and soon Josh in my prayers. Take care and don't get too stressed out. =)
-Philip
